Guy Archibald FORREST was born on 24th Jun 1879 in Lacey Green, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire[1]. He was the first third child of John FORREST and Eveline RODGER.

He grew up in Cheltenham[2] and was educated at Uppingham School, Uppingham, Rutland[3][4].

Career

Guy spent two years in the South African Constabulary then on 2nd Sep 1914 joined the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force[5]. Whilst in the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, Royal Flying Corps on 19th Dec 1914 he was promoted to Corporal and on 20th Dec 1914 he embarked from Southampton to Versailles, France. He was promoted to Sergeant on 17th Mar 1915 but was taken as a casualty to Sheffield Hospital on 15th May 1915 where he spent two months recovering[6]. He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star for services in the Theatre of War in France whilst in the Corps (authorised on 28th Nov 1922)[7].

On 9th Nov 1915 Guy was discharged from the Canadian Army to join the New Army in England[6]. He was promoted from temporary 2nd Lieutenant to temporary Lieutenant on 1st Jul 1917[8]. Whilst army records exist for Guy’s time in the Canadian Force, the British World War I service records were destroyed by a World War II bomb.

Guy appears to have spent some time travelling after the war as he is recorded as a passenger on the SS Tahiti from Mansfield, Australia arriving in San Francisco, California, America on 17th Apr 1925[9].

Family

He married at The Church of Annunciation, Chislehurst, Kent, on 20th Apr 1909, Ellen Dorothy EGERTON[10], daughter of Hubert Decimus EGERTON and Annie HORNER.

His wife, known by her middle name Dorothy, died on 30th Sep 1964 at 18 St Mildreds Road, Westgate-on-Sea, Margate, Kent, leaving their only child

i. Charles Evelyn Macintosh FORREST

Guy developed stomach cancer and died on 3rd Jan 1934 at Harrich Villas, Splatt, Cornwall[11][12].
